Guidelines for Yoga Practice
- Please enter the yoga room quietly and
begin to settle down and/or warm-up. This adds to the serene environment
of the yoga space and enhances the yoga experience. Try to get to class
10 minutes early to sign in.
- If you come late, please wait until the opening/centering to roll
out your sticky mat and enter quietly; if you occasionally need to leave
early, please allow for at least 5-10 minutes for final relaxation and
leave before the class takes savasana.
- No cell phones in the studio- either
turn them off or better yet, leave them in your car. Ah ~ a moment’s
peace.
- Practice on an empty stomach. Allow
3-4 hours after a large meal and 1-2 after a light meal or snack. Deep
breathing and moving the body are not complementary to the digestive
process.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing or exercise wear. Do not wear any
heavy perfume/cologne, as some people may have allergies.
- Remove your shoes before entering the
yoga room. Yoga is practiced in bare feet, creating a better feel for
the connection to the ground.
- We suggest you purchase your own sticky mat for personal hygiene reasons.
Sticky mats can be purchased at the studio or can be rented for $2.00.
Mat rental is FREE on your FIRST visit.
- Notify your instructor if you have any chronic injuries, medical
issues or special limitations before each class.
We can then help you to modify poses or give alternative suggestions.
- Yoga can be very beneficial for pregnant
women. Some poses are contraindicated, so please inform your
instructor if you are pregnant.
- The instructors’ give hands-on adjustments/assists to guide
students toward proper alignment and greater
depth/refinement of postures. If you are uncomfortable with this,
please feel free to let us know and we will kindly respect your wishes.
- Respect and honor your body by not
pushing past your limits of strength and flexibility. Stay present in
the process and not obsessed with the outcome. Yoga practice is about
letting go of competitiveness with others and yourself. Never
hold the breath or force yourself into a pose.
- Please tell your instructor of any injuries or concerns you may have.
Any pose can be modified and/or a substitution given. Part of yoga practice
is learning to take care of yourself and to ask for help when needed.
- Only sealed containers of water allowed in yoga room. Drink plenty
of water the rest of the day and try to eat something nutritious after
class, helping to bring the body into balance.
